I think this is more of a 3.75 I think there were some parts of the end I loved and some I didn't love, and I felt like it could have been a little faster paced at times but I did like the dynamic between Kell & Connor. I've seen a lot of reviews that say that this is a rip off of ADSOM and I completely disagree, two characters can have the same name and not be a rip off, I also think the role of the Prince's best friend and protector is a common one in fantasy books, and I feel like these roles are different enough. Not every book with a magic school of wizards is a rip off of HP. These are common tropes but it's not the same as ripping off a book. I also think the magic system is entirely different in this book and ADSOM

This was a loooong book …. To long in my opinion.
For the length of this story not much actually happened.
There was too much time spent describing the world and parties and not enough time actually spent on the plot which by the last half of the book started to come to life and that’s when I actually enjoyed the story.
It could have been a 4 star read if it had been condensed down as the sword catcher plot was interesting and unique.
I’m hopeful that the rest of the series has the same pacing as the second half of this book.
