It's kind of hard to cheer for a heroine whose only moral code seems to be "don't kill innocent people."

The book per se I'd rate a 3.5/5. However, I adore Amanda Ronconi as a narrator, so that ups this to a 4.

So I bought books 2 and 3 of this series in an audible 2 for 1 sale about 4 years ago I think, because the narrator was/is Amanda Ronconi and I love her. But I didn't have book one.... So years later my stepson's mom has become an audio addict (thanks to yours truly) and she now owns tons of books I've been meaning to get to and what do ya know, she let's me borrow this book, book 1 of the series I planned on reading 4 years ago. Lol!

So obviously the narration was great. And the book was pretty good too. It has the signature light, funny quality most the books Ronconi seems to narrate have. And the paranormal elements were pretty standard. I love the small town feel and that the main character, Garnet Lacey, manages an occult shop. Very Buffy-esque

I cannot wait to get to the second book... if only I had more time.

Another Amanda Ronconi-narrated book. Not excellent literature, but not terrible for the genre. It's an entertaining enough listen for a workday afternoon.

Quirky book with some interesting characters. I first read about the two main characters ( Garnet and Sebastian) in the short story book Many Bloody Returns. A witch who is inhabited by a goddess , a vamp who can withstand the sun and can also reproduce made evident by his permanently 16 year old son. Cool first book in the series looking forward to reading the next one.

I finally got a copy of this shipped in from another library only to realise on the first page that I had already read it quite a while ago - the book i read had a completely different cover to the one here and on the other editions listed at goodreads - probably an older Australian market specific cover.
Anyway I know I enjoyed it, a good sense of humor and just entertaining.

I wasn't a fan. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it is the the fact that she is a witch with a Goddess stuck in her that threw me off. Maybe it was just the fact of how she talked about having the Goddess inside of her. Of course there was also the fact that she seemed to only like to date vampires but hated that they needed to talk blood from someone else in order to survive yet she wasn't willing to let them take it from her. Maybe because I will not ever be in her shoes I couldn't feel for her. It actually bothers me that I can't figure out exactly what turned me off about this book. However I thought to myself, "Maybe this one was just slow and horrible because it is the first one of the series...let me try the next one!" Ugh.
