I have been reading Karin Slaughter's work for years. My love affair with her books and her characters started with this book, something I randomly stumbled upon years ago, totally by accident, and then I was hooked. Just like that, it was all over for me. Blindsighted is one of the best debut novels I have ever read from an author.

Slaughter wastes no time setting up her characters, and before you know it, you are invested in them, their lives, their everything. She has an earnest way of writing, and it makes the characters real, bringing them to life from the pages, and that is not an easy thing to do. The novel also doesn't suffer from stiff writing, like some debuts do. The story flows, and Slaughter also does not hold back the punches, and is not scared of getting her hands dirty. She does not shy away from heinous details, and they are also not just thrown in to shock. They are there to serve a purpose .

The book is fast paced, bold, brutal, and is written in a way that is flows effortlessly. It makes for an intense, albeit quick, read. Slaughter really is one hell of a storyteller. The tales she weaves and the characters are strong and well presented. The story had the perfect balance that simulates real life intersecting a terrible tragedy. For a debut novel, this truly blew my mind. I also appreciate that the situations were not too far out there like usual for some novels, so strong points for her there as it gives it a feel of the events being viable. Also, she deals with real issues, from romance, relationships, friendships, to issues still riddling the South.

Blindsighted is a fantastic debut novel, and I have been hooked from this very first book. Dark, brutal, violent, with characters that are so real that you get invested in, I cannot recommend Slaughter's work enough. The Grant County series is a fantastic series, and would definitely say that this is worth the read if you are into gritty, nasty crime thrillers that have darkness and guts.

After starting 2023 with straight up fantasy, I decided I needed a break, a thriller from one of my favourite authors did just the trick.

I DNF'd Blindsighted (1st in Grant County series) years ago, then attempted it again in 2020 after I binged and loved the Will Trent series. On 2nd attempt this book got 5 stars and now, here we are on my 3rd go and it's still just as good! I've never gotten around to reading all of the books in the Grant County series so here we are, attempting it. I'd like to get it done before the new Will Trent release this year which I think is definitely doable as Slaughter's writing, her stories and her characters are so addictive!

The characters are definitely what make Karin's books for me, I'm so invested in them and find that the stroies are really easy to go back to which can't be said for a lot of thrillers. Blindsighted took me by surprise on this read too because I totally forgot who the killer was and even though all the signs were there, screaming and shouting at my from the pages, I still didn't guess who did it.. I was so shocked when the reveal happened and I started connecting the dots.

It might be strange to say but all of Karin's books are full of gore and hard hitting topics but I find a lot of comfort in them and I'm looking forward to getting comfy with the rest of the series.

I was starting to feel really burnt out with reading and I wasn't liking what I was reading, so I decided to reread the first book of my favorite series to get me excited about reading again. This is my 5th time reading this book and I always love it more every time I read it. I'm so invested in all the characters and care about them and their lives, even Sara, who in my opinion, becomes a really annoying character. This book has one of my favorite characters of all time, Lena, who I know isn't likeable and has a lot of flaws, but she seems more human than the other two main characters in this series and I related to her a lot. Reading this series feels like home and it's a real comfort read for me as well. I found this series in a dark place in my life 6 years ago, and this series really got me through a lot and this series will always mean much to me

So good but in typical Karin Slaughter fashion.. it’s disturbing. It was too much for me in the beginning and I consider myself a seasoned thriller/murder-mystery reader. Once I got over it, the book was fantastic. It’s the first book in the grant county series which I am so excited to continue!
