He's definitely a self-entitled quack, if you want a good breakdown of gut bacteria and it's impact on health, look at The Good Gut by Erica & Justin Sonnenburg which is more realistic about the current knowledge of microbiome research.

Unlike other reviewers, there wasn't a part of Brain Maker that I didn't find informative. I checked this out from the library, but I'm buying my own copy to have on hand for reference. And looking forward to making my own kombucha.

Thought provoking and seems logical, but I see no evidence of long term studies. Still, I will try some of the recipes and make some changes in my diet.

Pseudoscience.

It would be nice if someone would actually write a book about the changes in medicine and the flora in our gut.

Helpful for what I was wanting to learn about, but incredibly repetitive. I probably would’ve gotten the same information from reading a few articles.

Good, however not as great as Grain Brain (his prior book). Skipped over half the book because I didn't want to know all of the medical details/stories. While the background/history is important, I wanted his recommendations more.

Got the ebook though I wished acquired it form the library instead.

An interesting read about gut health and the brain connection. Some claims seemed outlandish and backed by anecdotal science rather than research studies. But there were some good ideas and tips.

Audible | great info, boring delivery. Repetitive with too many specific success stories. It read/listened like a sales pitch but with some great info on our microbiome and how it effects our overall well-being. If you do listen to on audible, I recommend speeding up to 1.25.

Good information

The structure of this book is very clear. The lists are simple amd the recipes are easy to learn. A good reference book.
