I have been a fan of Jenn D Young for a few months and after reading her other books I started reading her other works. I would say you need to start with the book before this one, it's a prequel and you'll feel like you're missing things from the start if you don't.

I love angels and demons, so this book was great, plus the FMC was very unique! The world building that Jenn was able to do was incredibly interesting. Jenn plays up on the dark and light that we associate with angels and demons. I'm also loving the

Balanced Threatened by Jenn D. Young is the first book in her Unyielding Fates series. The author introduces readers to a paranormal world where balance is essential. A girl born of a demon and an angel is the perfect balance to it all. But her powers may be too much for her as she grows, so her father asks that they be locked away...knowing the cost that he will face in a short time to come. His request is granted, but years later...his daughter is put into a sleep that is meant to last for five years, but when the balance is being targetted...she must be awakened in order to fight those who are threatening everything.
Balanced Threatened is the first book that I have read by this author and for the most part...I truly enjoyed this book. I've read several books similar to this one, but this book has some major differences that help it stand out and apart from the rest. The prologue piques my interest and quickly pulls me into this book. Then when the author transitions into the later years she surprises me. I was expecting the storyline to pick up where Lana (the female mc) is struggling with nightmares about what happened to her parents and vowing revenge. Instead, the author gives me Ezra and Gabe, her two mates as they are trying to get through life a day at a time while missing her and looking forward to the day that she returns to them. I was pleasantly surprised by this and honestly, I appreciate it.
This book is told from multiple points of view so you get something from all of the main characters in this story. I like how the author alternates between them all and keeps me engaged as I am able to see inside of their minds with their own personal struggles as well. This book is a real page-turner and I enjoyed reading it.
Now, this book does have some issues. I felt that there was quite a bit of repetition throughout. Certain phrases would be repeated again almost back to back and I felt that it took away from the storyline. It comes off as exactly what it is repetitive and unnecessary. Then, I had a bit of an issue with them wanting to get all riled up and getting an attitude when they learn that there is more to the prophecy than what they were initially told. I get being irritated, but being rude, and full-blown angry is just stupid. Especially when they are told that it was information that they didn't need to know at the time. I figured that revelation, them not needing to know yet, would settle them down a bit, but they acted like they weren't basically still children at the time. I was just honestly annoyed because I felt that they were out of line.
I really did enjoy this book so I am rating it 4 out of 5 stars. There are some steamy scenes, lots of sarcasm, major drama, and more so this book has a lot going for it. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series as I'm sure that it's going to be a good one!

This was a really great book! You just need to make sure that you read the prequel that is in the Fight the Night anthology. If you don't read the prequel, you will feel a little lost at the beginning. You can read this story without reading the prequel, but it is much more enjoyable if you do.

So, again, this book was really great! I loved the different types of character and the play between the angels and demon. I also liked that the angel acted a bit more like a demon and the demon was more straight laced. The story had a really creative premise with a prophecy and surprise characters. I am really excited to see where this series goes.
