Genuinely surprised how much I liked this book considering it was a straight romance book and not my normal queer ones. I think a lot of that reason is because the main characters were genuinely good people who actually had interesting backstories. Nathan's character was really sweet and I loved his relationship with Tara + Mick especially because there was no stupidity around him not being able to handle his mom dating or Mick not liking Nathan. I actually teared up at the end of the book.

Honestly, not a lot happened in terms of a plot. Most of it was sex, break for a few pages to talk about life, and sex again. I actually would've liked to see them have more cute relationship moments because they were interesting, but the whole plot is about them being a one night stand situation so I can't say I expected much else.

Let's take a moment to appreciate this cover because it's the reason why I picked this up in the first place. Recently, this cover got a revamp into the illustrated style and one of the popular romance readers/reviewers I follow posted it on the timeline and wow, it was a bad cover. 😂  I mean, this sexy half-naked man with glistening abs on the cover quite accurately describes the sensuality and sexiness of the story that you will find in these pages. But the newly issued cover makes it look like a closed-door YA/NA sports romance. All that being said, the discourse around this made me curious enough to pick it up and I'm so glad I did.

There was such a raw sensuality to Mick's character and the chemistry between him and Tara was incendiary. It was lustful and sensual but it was also peak emotional vulnerability and I couldn't envision a more perfect couple! I will say that this did move very quickly from a one-night-stand to suddenly meeting her kid and his family but I wasn't bothered by it because honestly, I was so invested in their sexual and emotional journeys. They're both wonderfully mature characters (in their 30s acting their age, lol) and I loved seeing them let their guards down, and show their vulnerability with each other. They've both experienced so much from their teen years and it was both heartwarming and heartbreaking learning about their backstories but the acceptance and comfort they gave back to each other made their connection feel even more intense and incredible!

Only one character made this irritating to read and that was Liz. I didn't enjoy the woman-on-woman hate that she served and I still don't entirely understand her motives because it was purely dumb, lol. I'm sorry, she was horrible and the way Tara handled herself around Liz made me love her even MORE because I would've lost my cool so quickly with the disrespect served. Tara was also a much better person than me because of how easily she forgave Liz for what she did to her and her son. I'm glad that Mick took a firmer stand because yeah, Liz deserved it, sorry not sorry! 😂 It's her book next in this series and honestly, as much as I want to continue reading this, I'm very not keen on reading about Liz. I'll have to keep it on the backburner for now but I'm looking forward to reading more by this author!

Audiobook narrator’s voice is nasal, and sounds way too serious and gloomy.

After reading the ebook, I give it 4 stars.
