libby audiobook, recommended by theo

as a romance, it’s fine. jordan and astrid are compatible, there’s a tiny bit of fun enemies to lovers in the beginning, and the supporting cast is lovable.

as a book, it lost me. the central plot doesn’t make any sense to me.
why did they not decide to work together and offer to work that up on camera for ~drama~? why did astrid confess when they both knew her ‘taking credit’ was what was best for the everwood, which is jordan’s literal only goal? why were we supposed to believe that jordan a) felt so strongly about being credited when she never expressed that until meredith put it in her head and b) has so little interiority that other characters repeatedly tell her what problems she has when she herself has given no indication of them?
it’s all bizarre. also big “this is the butchest girl twitter can handle before they start getting scared” energy unfortunately lmao. the references to random queer branding is exhausting, all of the fun elements of a tv show/rivalry/haunted house are completely passed up, and the continuation of the tarot theme is annoying to me personally though ymmv. it’s like the author introduces 25 moving parts, continues working with 10 of them, and then realizes she’s short and slaps 10 more in at the 60% mark with no clear reason.

it’s really mostly fine but i wanted more out of it, idk

LOVED this sequel to the Bright Falls series. In Delilah’s book, I definitely wanted to know more about Astrid, and this was such a wonderful way to get to know her. In addition to having a dual perspective with the new love interest Jordan Everwood!! Hot but realistic smut, brief relationship angst but ends totally happy, lovely discovery of sexuality. I can’t wait to read more in this series!
