Alice Isn’t Dead is a great novel adaptation by the casting the same name. While I prefer the podcast, I did enjoy the book. There’s a lot of great visual descriptions that lend itself to great horror moments, which is the novel’s greatest strength. I also enjoyed the message of hope, and the importance of fighting against hate and doing what’s right — especially when you’re scared. The only drawback for me is the pacing, and sometimes the writing style. There’s a couple of moments where I feel paragraphs or sentences end abruptly, but overall, I enjoyed it!

<3 Joseph Fink & the Night Vale sphere really scratch that creepypasta, surrealism just behind the veil of reality, what the heck is going on here itch. Alice Isn't Dead starts out relatively low stakes - Keisha mourns her wife Alice's disappearance, holds a funeral, and then, watching the news, starts seeing her in the crowds. Ok, weird. Keisha's quest to track down Alice snowballs into a conspiracy theory road trip that is kinda freaky, definitely supernatural, but mostly just excitingly strange.

Such a unique plot and some really incredible moments that I was genuinely hooked on. However, when comparing it to the podcast, I did really think it worked better in the podcast format.
I know that this is quite an unfair comparison to be making, but it definitely did impact my rating of the book and I just wished I had read the book first because I feel as though I would be pushing it further towards the 3.5-4 star boundary if that were the case.

One of the strengths of the podcast was that it left things unsaid and allowed the audience to interpret the gaps/themes. The novelization provides you with everything. If you’re already a fan of the podcast and want to know more about the characters’ interiority and what was happening “off screen,” you’ll enjoy this book. If you’ve never listened to the podcast or read the book, though, I would definitely recommend the podcast.
