This is my favorite book! I read it once a year! Every time I get the end, even tho I know what’s going to happen, I’m still mad and upset! Fantastic book. I always recommend.

The protagonist is a manipulator who orchestrates the entire SYSTEM brilliantly, like a con-artist. The lifestyle reflects a romantic, old-fashioned ruse, yet the clever 'sticking-it-to-the-man.' Did NOT see that ending coming...

Predictable. Boring. No character to root for or hate. No depth in the writing.

One of the older Grisham novels, but very good. I purchased cheap (a trend) for the Kindle having lost the paperback some years ago.
When Patrick Lanigan, the junior partner in a law firm, dies in a car crash, and six weeks later his firm is mysteriously deprived of $90m it doesn’t take too much imagination to think perhaps he might not have died. The story starts four years later – the firm, and a few other interested parties, have spent $3.5 million, and finally they seem to have found their man hidden in Brazil. Lanigan is picked up, and a chain of events ensues that involves the law firm, a senator, a somewhat shady private investigator and of course the FBI.
The story is well written, engaging and stokes the fantasy of disappearing and starting again, in Lanigan’s case a new start funded by $90m! I especially enjoyed the details of what he had done in the intervening years, and how he had carried out the deception.
Even though it is set in the early 1990’s, it doesn’t really feel as though it is specifically dated. There are a few references to ‘quaint’ technology etc., but it is not quite as obviously dated as it feels in ‘The Broker’, where the technology is greeted with a bit more awe (that said, still one of my favourites from Grisham). It does may you think about how much harder it might be to pull of the deception in today’s digital world. Frankly though, it doesn’t matter – the story has enough in it to gloss over that and it is worth a read.

Legal Thrillers = John Grisham.
It's been awhile since I last read any thing by Grisham. Now I wonder why.
This was a masterfully told story as always.
A quick read too.
I'd give it a 5 stars but for the early climax.
