I loved the first third of this book but I'm still enraged at the ending

I think I was just not in the right mindset for this book - walking away from it at the moment because I am really in need of happier reads at the moment (and thanks to Goodreads reviews to confirm what I suspected I was headed into which helped me decide this was not for me right now)

This one is an absolutely rollercoaster.

Don't go into it thinking it's a cosy holiday romance with a happily ever after at the end. It's not. That's not to say you won't like it - I loved it - but don't start it with the wrong impression because it might hamper your enjoyment.

We've got Josie, a 30 year old pa assistant who's just been cheated on by her boyfriend and is about to be made redundant from her job. And then we've got Max, a brooding grump, stranded in London over Christmas because his plane has been delayed. When Josie bumps into Max, literally, an unexpected festive whirlwind romance ensues. Suffice to say, it doesn't quite go to plan and we spend the rest of the book doing the usual will-they-won't-they. Then the end happens.....

So I loved this book as soon as I started it. It's so Christmassy and festive and lovely. When it got to the New York part I lost a little bit of interest but they were soon back in the UK and I was immediately back into the book. It's heart-warming and heart-breaking. It's frustrating and lovely. You'll laugh and you'll cry. But like I say, if you want happily ever after don't read this one.

Thoroughly recommended to those who want a Christmas book to devour in a few sittings, but who can also handle the harsh realities of life.

I ended up not being able to get into this book and skimming most of it, and good thing I did because that ending…. No, thank you.

I’m so grateful this was my book club’s first selection, Because I CAN’T BE ALONE IN THIS GRIEF. What a beautiful story. I was already grieving over their missed opportunities of loving each other, when that ending broke my heart. I know there’s a part of me that knew it was coming, but my brain absolutely convinced me that maybe I was over analytical about things. Of course, I wasn’t. It was a beautiful choice by Emily Stone to revert back to Max’s perspective at the end. To really get his point of view on the last few days pushed me over the edge. It will take awhile for this crying headache to subside. Not quite the “christmasy” romance you’re expecting, but a beautiful story none the less!
