After that explosive ending and revelation from the previous book, I was eager to read this one. I was so intrigued by the character of Helen and to find out what she would be like (I mean who marries the enigmatic Pendergast?!). This one was action packed and it was a lot of fun to see Pengergast who is usually so calm and collected on an emotion-fueled race for vengeance. I am looking forward to reading the final book in the Helen trilogy (as well as the rest of this series).

It's been awhile since I've ready a Preston/Child book and it was a real treat. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy their books. This was the 2nd book in a trilogy but I didn't know that when I got it. Now I'll get the first book and read it. I like the main character in this book and he is in another 10-12 books they've done together. It was good with enough twists to keep me interested.

This was a definite improvement over the last book in the ongoing Pendergast series, though I felt that some of the pacing was a little off. While it started quite literally with a bang, there was a bit of a lag in the middle before the story gained momentum in the last 100 pages or so. The most frustrating element of a Preston & Child book in this series is the knowledge that you're going to have to wait a year (and possibly several hundred more pages) to find out exactly what is going on. While it lacked the jaw-dropping horror of Relic and only had a tiny piece of the gothic humor of Still Life With Crows, it was still a good adventure, and the authors handle the ever-growing cast of characters deftly.

As with all of the Pendergast novels, I was very much into this book. I absolutely love the character of Aloysius Pendergast. He is by far the most interesting character ever written and continues to surprise me with both his resourcefulness and intelligence. Preston and Child are amazing story tellers and their attention to detail is staggering. I learn something new every novel and thanks to the relic and subsequent novels have a sever love of museums and the macabre.

Entertaining mystery featuring an injured Pendergast. Big cliff hanger ending, which is a bit annoying.
