The main character, Mrs. Maxim de Winters 2.0, was aggravating yet extremely relatable. Her thought process and perception of the world around her would get so annoying at times that I would want to throw the book on the ground. But, after I put the book down and just...existed, I realized that my thoughts and worldview are similar to hers. The score would be higher if not for the ending which I found to be a tad unsatisfying.

I'm confused. Impressed, definitely impressed. This was without a doubt a brilliant book. But confusing.

Ok, after watching the movie I get the story more now. I may have to reread the book, but I am already improving my rating.

I read this book quite a while ago, and, when I had read it, I loved it. Tremendously so. I won't spoil anything but I will say that when I see people write adaptations of this book as "modern" versions, I get extremely frustrated because they paint it as this HUGE love story and, to be honest, it's really not.

I get so out of sorts when I read these synopsis' and I read something along the lines of "She moved to a new school to escape her past and start someplace fresh. She planned on keeping to herself and not becoming attached to anyone, but she soon becomes enraptured by the brooding young man who will talk to no one but her. And, even then, he's still stiff and reserved. Soon, she finds that he's still in love with his ex-girlfriend who died in a freak accident that almost nobody knows the details about. Will he ever get over his ex and turn his attentions to her?"

^^^ This is the kind of crap that grates me because UUUGGGHHHH, there are things I know that I can't say but I do know that that is so wrong, just wrong. Unless, later in the story it reveals what happens, but still, .....no.

Anyway, rant over. (:

I now understand why this book is considered a classic and I have no idea what took me so long to read it. Five stars for the gothic atmosphere, the wonderfully creepy Mrs. Danvers, beautifully dark and haunted Manderley, overbearing Mrs. Van Hopper, a memorable heroine with no name, and Rebecca, of course. Always Rebecca. Rebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca!

I liked the mystery and the intrigue in the first half of this book, but I didn’t enjoy the way things unfolded in the second half, nor was I satisfied with the ending.

The first half was slow and hard to read, but the second half sucked me in. Very creative story telling
