This was okay - not terrible but not very good either. I think this is a good premise, but the pacing is really strange. There’s also an over-reliance on miscommunication, it causes pretty much all of the big and small obstacles/problems the characters face. I think the characters are also underdeveloped - by the end of the book I still didn’t really feel like I knew them, and it felt like all of their depth was told to me, not shown.

If you like a slow burn, this is for you. I really enjoyed this simple cute romance book, queer romance is so underrepresented and this book fills a nice niche of slow burn trope heavy but all sweet and lovey romance. The very end holds a small bit of well written smut, I wish it had been explored throughout the whole book as their relationship developed, but I understand why it had to be the very end. I disliked the introduction of the SA/SH in hollywood direction but mostly because it was depressing and took me out of the fantasy happy romance, not because it was boring or upsetting. Cute famous person x assistant trope. Well fledged characters even the side ones. Enjoyed this book.

They went the whole book without even saying “Let’s give them something to talk about”? Come on

Going into this I was already unsure about it when the relationship is between an employee and her boss, but I guess I just had higher hopes about how they’d deal with this compared to how it actually happened. The thing is the two of them did not get to know each other at all outside of a work setting and the power imbalance between them never really settled down.
Also Jo liking being called boss was weird 😃

I feel like the two of them were working together for just so long while all this was going on and I can’t even really think of an alternative way for this plot to have been properly handled other than just taking these characters out of the same workplace.

I did however like the commentary on workplace sexual harassment, especially the extent to which it happens in the entertainment industry
and I wish that the book could’ve delved more into that in the end because Jo’s whole passion project concerning it was kind of just left unfinished.

This didn’t really work for me. A lot of the reason why is in the blurb—reading this book made me realize that boss romances really aren’t for me. Going into this, I didn’t realize that there’s a significant age gap as well. The power imbalance just felt a little icky to me.

I also had a significant issue with the pacing. While I liked that this book took place over many months, it made how much of a slow burn this book is feel less realistic.
Especially as the focus is on them getting together and we don’t get to spend any time with them as a couple.
If you like slow burns, I might recommend this, as it’s one of the slowest burns I’ve read.
Their first (purposeful) kiss happens with like 2 chapters left in the book. However, the book ends with a full-blown sex scene, which I didn’t mind, but just felt out of place with how chaste the rest of the book was.
