This story follows Marigold and Cade, and is a second chance small town romance. Mare and Cade fell in love as young teenagers, but Mare left to pursue her dreams and go to college. Since Cade is Mare’s best friends older brother, their relationship was never public when they were younger.
When Mare has to return home after Cade and his sisters mom passes away, their love rekindles and they realize the spark they always had was still there. The storyline has frequent flashbacks to their youth, which made the trajectory of their story even more emotional and impactful.

You know this book was fine until I got to the almost 60 pages of pure smut. In which the characters fuck as 19/22 year olds and 24/27 year olds and it’s basically the same thing. #overit

Kat singleton can do no wrong, I finished this book a months ago and I still think about it to this day.
It has the perfect tropes small town, brothers best friend and second chance.
I love all the characters. Mare and Cade have my heart. And the side characters I can’t wait to continue with this series. The ending was such a full circle moment and just proved to me I want love like them. They were truly soulmates.

I loved this book, and these two characters had great soul mate energy. The hate and tension between them at the start were fantastic. When they started communicating, yelling, and crying at each other, it’s my kryptonite. To have a love so strong and fighting for it was beautiful. Everything that man did was beautiful. The house, tattoo, and the mouth on Cade were illegal. I’m very excited for the next book as the snippets of Pippa and Camden in the book had me laughing, and I can already feel the tension. Loved this book!

i want to scream in frustration. mostly because i think i am small town and cowboyed out and i should’ve saved this one for another day because i can see myself blowing through it any other time. so while my rating is 3.25 stars it is 1. still a good rating. regular old romances usually don’t get much more than a 4 from me. so this is still a solid rating and a book i’d recommend. and 2. i think it is more my fault than the books fault. i think i picked this up at the wrong time and if i would’ve picked it up a different day i think the rating would’ve been higher.
first of all, this is a best friends brother story with some tragedy intertwined. Marigold (Mare)’s mother passed at a young age and when her father was grieving she turned to her best friend Pippa’s family for comfort. she grew up alongside them as pip’s family took her in. including her grumpy older brother, cade.
marigold was in love w cade as long as she can remember. then finally after they got together it was time for her to go off to college and pursue her dreams and everything between them ended, not well.
what finally got her to come home is the death of pippa and cade’s mother linda. which was also her first time seeing cade since their awful breakup years ago.
cade had a WONDERFULLY dirty mouth. i think the most questionable thing with him is that at the beginning he was absolutely IRATE with marigold for leaving and staying gone, but also once you finally see the reason why she stayed gone you can’t even really blame her.
marigold ended up pursuing her dream to be a writer and writing her story about her and cade. where she named the main characters “wade and daisy” which i did physically roll my eyes at. i mean, this whole time her best friend supposedly had no idea her best friend and her brother hooked up years ago, had read the book many times, and never managed to make the connection that wade and daisy was actually her best friend marigold and her brother cade. i really don’t think the girl is that stupid.
anyways, it wasn’t bad. i actually did enjoy it. i pointed out the more questionable moments but it was well written, fun, EXTREMELY dirty, and a very sweet love story. if you love the best friends brother trope, i’d def recommend this one!

I read this one out of order, after reading book 2 and loved it just as much. Sutten Mountain just sounds like somewhere I'd love to live!
This is Cade's and Mare's story. Alongside Pippa, the 3 of them grew up together. Closer than can be after the sudden loss of Mare's mom when she was only 10. And she had a long-lasting crush on Cade that spanned over the entirety of their childhood. It goes back and forth between the past and the present, which takes place right after the death of Pippa and Cade's mom. There is so much angst and love in this one, it really pulls at the heartstrings.
Kat Singleton knows how to write great characters, who are broken and find their way to being fixed. Cade and Mare are perfect together, it just took him too long to figure it out. We also get to meet Camden here, who is the MMC of book 2.
For as much sadness and heartache this book has, it also has some lighthearted lol moments and I'll be reading all the Kat Singleton books for sure.
