Mats Jonsson writes and draws a history of the Forest Sami people in Sweden, together with the history of his own family. He discovers quite late in life that he is Sami, and the book grapples with his search for more information, and for what this means for his identity.
The book is informative, interesting, and angry. Historical facts, information from court proceedings and censuses, personal anectodes and musings - all get interwoven, telling a tale of great personal loss, in addition to the enormous violations against Sami people. Sweden has committed cultural genocide, and had made next to no reparations. Mats Jonsson gives this oart of history the spotlight it deserves.
