I'm actually dissapointed by this - The Spook's series is one of my all time favourites but I'm just not getting on with this new series and I don't know what it is about it. I'm not enjoying the drastic changes with Tom, I feel that he is way more selfish then he was in the original series and I know a lot of people will just say that it's his character development - which I get - but I don't like the new character development that's happening with Tom.

Majorly pissed off about Grimalkin, it was such a cheat way to go, and I think that he could of done something more with her character. I like Jenny, I think her character is awesome and I think she is a great apprentice but what I don't like is how it feels that Tom isn't teaching her properly because all of his attention is on Alice - which brings me back to him being quite selfish.

I'm going to carry on with the serie, because as I said it's one of my all time favourites but so far I'm really not impressed by it, I just think there is a lot of stuff lacking and it's not getting me excited for any of the future books, unlike the orginal series.

Je ne sais pas trop quoi penser de ce tome, j'étais déçue par certains aspects, et j'ai aussi eu l'impression que tout a été trop vite. Je lirai bien évidemment la suite, car c'est une saga que j'aime beaucoup !

ENG
I don't know what to think of this volume, I was disappointed in some aspects, and I also had the impression that everything was too fast. I will read the next one of course, because it's a saga that I like a lot !

I love these book about the spook and Tom Ward and all the characters. I have to say the Last Apprentice series was so far my favorite. The Starblade Chronicles so far are a little darker. I love them all but so far I think the Last Apprentice series was better. The Starblade Chronicles, to me feel a little compacted and hurried. I still love to read them all though. If you enjoy, reading Joseph Delaney then you should check out this series too.

Interesting style in this as we swap viewpoints throughout the story.
The war against the Kobalos seems inevitable, and so many things are going on that it looks bad for Tom Ward and his companions.
A number of familiar faces appear. Not everyone makes it, as you expect, and it's set up well for the next part.

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven't read the first book, this review starts with its ending.

Thomas Ward comes back from the dead, raised by an angel-creature related to his non-human mother after battling -- and winning -- the Kobalos champion sent to demoralize us all. We learn he's got amazing regenerative powers and as such, he's seized by a local prince and used to rally the troops for a preemptive invasion against the Kobalos.

But it's all been a big ruse and the Kobalos are waiting for Thomas and the prince's forces. Thomas rediscovers the girl who broke his heart, Alice, is a dark witch in on the plot and even Grimalkin doesn't see it coming.

This is where I exited the series. My two kiddos continued on to the third book and said it was good, if exceptionally bloody and gruesome. I have the third book, The Dark Assassin, on hold at the library.

Decreased this book by 1 star. I still loved it to bits, I just found a bit more fault with it this time around, mainly being
SpoilerGrimalkin's manipulation and stubbornness, Jenny's pettiness that led her to being found by Slither (which I suppose was a good thing) and Alice's bitterness towards Jenny.
I am really pleased that
SpoilerAlice came back, and that Tom's happier, and that their relationship seems like true love, definitely nothing lusty about it. They're in it because they like who each other is, not just what they look like. They aren't blinded by small things such as arguments, and they argue and contradict each other without fear. I just really hope they defeat Golgoth!
I'm really sad for
SpoilerGrimalkin and Meg, dying like that! Grimalkin, after all of that time, after getting a book dedicated to her, and she dies so quickly and in so much vain. No point in it at all :(
She was a favourite character of mine. Keen to see where the next book takes me.

Bon.

I’m calling it. I had so much momentum through this original series that i thought I could get through these last three and find out what happens my beloved Tom. But I can’t. I made it halfway through this book and have left Tom in a life or death situation, and yet I can’t bring myself to continue reading it.

Maybe someday I will try again.
