Isabel is asked to look into three candidates for a boarding school's headship, after the chair of governors receives an anonymous letter suggesting that one of the applicants has something to hide.

I love these quiet, gentle books by Alexander McCall Smith which are just perfect for a rainy afternoon spent reading. In The Charming Quirks of Others, Isabel Dalhousie, moral philosopher and inquisitive, amateur detective, is asked to look into the backgrounds of the three candidates who have been shortlisted for the Headmaster's position at a local private boy's school in Edinburgh, Scotland. While gathering information about the three men, Isabel is reminded that an individual shouldn't make assumptions about the behavior and motivations of others and no one should allow their imagination to create fantasy scenarios that have no relationship with reality to influence their behavior.

It breaks my heart to mark down an AMS book, but I found this disappointing. My full review for The Bookbag is here http://www.thebookbag.co.uk/reviews/index.php?title=Isabel_Dalhousie:_The_Charming_Quirks_of_Others_by_Alexander_McCall_Smith

I just don't really like any of his books besides the #1 Ladies series.

Charming, as always! The theme of this book is the insecurities we all experience in relationships, and the occasional breaches of trust that happen.
