"..."art of love": men were forever boasting of their skill, though love it wasn't, just self-gratification. This pastime that men took so seriously is much what you'd expect of the old baboons of our grandfather's glorious days: the kudos such Lovlaces earned is passé now, along with the fashion for red-heeled shoes and grandiose wig."

ESTOY ROTA.

hmmmm. liked the meta humor and the writing, mostly, but tbh the story fell kinda flat and the novel-in-verse wasn't fully working for me. interesting though! might've liked it better if i'd read it for a class or something, idk. i feel bad but also who cares!

I love the ballet based on this novel, so I was already familiar with the story. It was hard to follow along at the beginning, but the story unfolds beautifully by the middle. The dramatic ending gets me! The “Note on Translation” offers a curious insight, as well. I am interested in reading Nabokov’s translation of Eugene Onegin, too!
