A pretty enjoyable book to read. Don't expect a sudden urge to manifest character development after reading it but for someone who is currently struggling with self-trust in a fast paced community with greedy standard, this book does help in widening my vision to change my value in life to be a lot more simple and take the first little step to start doing what I want instead of what the society want. On the other hand, the lifestyle, standard, and examples that were written in this book legit screams an American perspective which is not recommended for those who still think in conventional way.

This book is nothing groundbreaking, but I think the Author makes some occasional good points throughout it. That said I don't think I'd recommend it as an actual self-help book. It's worth a read if you'd like to get a different perspective on things but beyond that it doesn't offer much in terms of practical advice, so if that's what you're looking for you might be disappointed.

Stopped listening to this audiobook 25 minutes in after the author used women as negative examples three times, but had no negative mention of men (my personal final straw was when Mark said a random old woman who insisted her 30¢ coupon be accepted at a store was basically a miserable person who hadn’t had sex in years—bold assumption since some people need to save every penny they can because they don’t have/make enough money).

So anyway, this book reeks of well-off white male privilege and subtle misogyny. So I’m practicing my own subtle art of not giving a fuck and saying fuck this author and his condescending, contradictory, misogynistic, privileged bullshit. Self acceptance and “not giving a fuck” doesn’t have to mean assuming everyone else sucks just because they prioritize different things than you. And if you truly didn’t give a fuck, Mark, you wouldn’t waste precious energy condemning strangers who have no weight in your life. Maybe try the subtle art of fucking off.

I listened to this audiobook on a train because it's INESCAPABLE and it was SO not worth the hype.

It's basically: Man-child learns how to empathize with other humans only after witnessing something absolutely tragic (huge trigger warning) and then makes the tragedy all about himself and how it taught him how to finally be a human being.

Also he constantly brags about how much he *definitely absolutely fucks all the time for sure*

Useful breakdown of complex thoughts, but the weird misogyny when talking about women came out of left field and alienated me, a woman, from feeling like this book was meant for me. The crass language was expected given the title, but wasn’t up my alley.

I'm honestly considering this to be my first book with ZERO stars because what a load of bullshit. Don't waste your money. Go find something more meaningful or that you know you'll enjoy. Do not give a f*ck about this book.

It had some good lessons. There were many instances that I felt the author didn't know what he was talking about though. For instance, he mentioned a case about teenagers with OCD and how that all that is needed to seemingly fix it is to have willpower; which in fact takes way more than that. Often his examples were gratuitous and appeare  to be showy, braggy. And, the author was blind to his privilege and didn't even give good enough advice to people with his privilege as a middle class white man.
