Whimsical and captured that childlike wonder that is so hard to write about

I didn't realize this was a newer book until I was about halfway through and checked out the publication page. I would have never known! The story was quite troubling at times, but I loved the way everything wrapped up.

I really *really* enjoyed this book we read for book club (my pick). It felt like a cross between The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and The War That Saved My Life. Hard but hopeful with a satisfying ending.

I read this out loud to my kids. Really good! Sad but good story.

I CRIED. I read the entirety of this during a contact nap with my baby. So well written, with the flavor of the genuine article. I was shocked it was written so recently!

I wish I could go back and read A Place to Hang the Moon again for the first time. I have always enjoyed middle grade literature and WWII history. This novel is the perfect intersection of those two things. William, Edmund, and Anna are three lovable orphaned siblings thrust into the unenviable situation of being evacuated to the English countryside after the death of their grandmother. There they are confronted with the beauty and ugliness of life—often all at once. Everything about this book made me want to curl up in a cozy corner, preferably with a hot mug of English Breakfast tea, and keep reading. Highly recommended!

What a delightful middle grade novel, read by Polly Lee with beautiful feeling. It has all the atmosphere and history for a solid sense of place while being completely appropriate for elementary aged kiddos. It’s a very huggable book and I’ll enjoy the warm tender feeling it gave me for days to come.
