I cannot believe it took me so long to knock this off my #tbrpile! I am a long time Paolini fan from high-school on and as soon as I cracked this collection of short stories, I fell back into his carefully crafted, beautiful world.⠀
Paolini returns you to Eragon's world and to the man himself, a little older and a little wiser. He shows you places you didn't know you wanted to see and shares stories that you have to know. I loved this so, so much and gave it away to read- a rarity for me- in an effort to cheer someone up. Sometimes we need a bit of innocent nostalgia to lift us from our struggles of the modern day.

An interesting read for anyone who liked the Inheritance Cycle. Personally, I really liked the frame story for the three short stories. Arguably a better epilogue for Eragon than the ending of the Inheritance Cycle. Here I really noticed how much Eragon grew from the annoying protagonist in the first book to where he ends up. It makes me excited for the future of the stories in this world.
The three short stories were interesting as well. The first one, the Fork, was the seed for what became the Murtagh book, but interestingly wasn't told from his viewpoint.
I didn't really care that much for the second story (sorry Angela), but the third one really gripped me. It is a story from Urghal culture that really broadens our understanding of all the facets of Urghal life and the variety in the species, just like us humans.

I hadn’t read the Inheritance Cycle since it was released. That might be part of why this book seemed a little weak to me, at least compared to (my memory of) the Cycle.

This set of short stories is 9 chapters, with three larger inset stories every third chapter. The other chapters are mostly about Eragon and how he is getting on post-Inheritance Cycle. It ends on an exciting note that opens the door for future stories. I do hope those happen.

The three main stories are fun enough but somewhat inconsequential. They have thematic or historical relevance to the larger narrative but are too short to really pack much of a punch. In the case of the third story, I’d even prefer a full account, rather than the 100 or so pages that were given.

Overall a nice addition to Alegasia and a preview of things to come. It was nice to check in on Eragon and to learn even a bit about Angela as I wind up for Murtagh.
