Problematic characters, but the prose was so entertaining I didn’t mind. Very interesting philosophical points.

BOF, love this; the psychoanalysis and bold reflexions Kundera makes are just amazing.

If I had to represent my review of this book with a graph with on x how much I liked the book and y the progress of the book, the graph would have an U shape. I liked the beginning which was intriguing, then it got a bit boring and then I liked the end, who made me cry.

The philosophy in this was amazing. The plot itself was phenomenal as well. Perhaps I need to be reading more from Kundera, or more foreign texts in general, but to me it felt like the themes were very unique and the way they were dealt were also something that I had never seen before, in the way that they were discussed in this text. The characters were so beautifully flawed, you couldn't help but hate them. But then, right the next second, you would feel some kind of a 'good' emotion for them also. Reading this for my master's really made it dawn on me that yes. I am doing my master's.

Either everything matters or nothing does, and I'm not sure which one is worse.
