Kundera has established himself as a voice representing the two sides of relationships: the simple, everyday struggles, and the deeply rooted, often conflicting aspects. Two-sided, he presents both the female and male perspectives, their reactions and their thoughts. Love is never simple. He reflects the likes of Hemingway and Ford in preceding chapters. Just great.

An unbearable pseudophilosophical character-driven mess with absolutely despisable and irrational characters.
Boring and painful to read.
