I loved reading this short romance read. I enjoyed the entertainment that it brought to me as the reader. I liked the fast pace. The romantic courtship, even though it was brief was very sweet. The couple were like a young married couple happy to finally to be together.

Nette kurze Geschichte. Hätte es lustiger gefunden, wenn er nicht sofort checkt, dass sie eine Frau ist und sich dennoch verliebt.

Kit Laing is the stableboy for the Laird of Glen Lyon in the Western Highlands of Scotland. Quentin MacNab, the laird’s nephew who is visiting for a time, has noticed “he” isn’t as presented. One afternoon while they were entertaining his cousins, he takes Kit away to attempt to fact find and they get caught in a sudden blizzard. They find refuge in a remote cabin on the property where Quentin learns Kit is really Christabel Urquhart, the Countess of Appin, who is hiding from her stepbrother and guardian. Quentin agrees to maintain her secret but the damage is done to her reputation after they are rescued the following morning.

I hope there’s time to squeeze in one more holiday story because this was a delightful one. Kit/Christabel is only hiding out until she turns of age on Christmas Day, which is only a few days away. She’s had an attraction to Quentin for some time and he’s suspected her true gender for an equally long time and was also drawn to her. Their forced marriage didn’t feel like the awkward union it might have otherwise been. I loved that there wasn’t any long suffering miscommunication about their feelings and the story reveled in the joint friendship and infatuation between these two that blossomed beautifully.

Both were attractive characters who I fell for and enjoyed their romance. The added threat of the dangerous stepbrother just made it more fun, especially as I knew things would be rightly resolved. Lastly, it was wonderful getting updates of the earlier couples in this series. This just hit all the right emotions I needed in this moment and made me smile.

4.9 stars.
Wow. This was just lovely. I had forgotten how much I liked the first Anna Campbell I read.
It’s not often I read a book and have to look up the meaning of words yet I did twice.
Anna Campbell is a very talented and competent writer and when I think of this story I’d love to convince my friend, who doesn’t believe that Romance novels are proper fiction, to read it.
Despite this only being novella length, the characters jumped out of the page and were more well rounded than a lot of characters in many of the full length novels I’ve read recently.
The romance was just lovely and sweet and I went away feeling like this couple would have a proper, realistic happily ever after.
This didn’t quite make my 5 star shelf which I reserve for my favourites just because it was a novella.
