As the wedding between Batman and Catwoman comes closer, it continues to become evident that two high-profile and extraordinary people will not be able to marry without navigating a bit of difficulty--from inter-dimensional battles to world-shaking threats much closer to home.

While not a perfect volume, King continues to deliver exciting and deeply personal stories as he delves into the lives of Bruce, Selina, and those around them. And, honestly, amidst the action and adventure, some of the strongest moments in this series have been the quietest ones--moments of hurting people trying to overcome their pain and find a little bit of hope and connection in a world that doesn't often go their way. The writing is strong, the art is excellent, and this series continues to be a pleasure to read.

Enjoyable, but the stories feel somewhat inconsequential to the series narrative. A major test of Bruce's commitment, but very little wedding-planning banter (although it's clearly on Selena's mind).

While I've enjoyed most of Tom King's superhero books, I never got into his Batman run. The first two issues were so over-the-top that I decided to take a major Bat-break. I tuned back in for the controversy surrounding the Catwoman marriage, and the last page convinced me that I'd made the correct decision in not reading any of King's run.

But I didn't make the correct decision. King's hits seem to be worth the occasional miss. I thought the first three stories in this volume were fantastic both as character studies, and fun adventures. Bruce Wayne counseling a kid whose parents were killed? A kid called Master Bruce? It's hokey, but not over-the-top. Batman and Wonder Woman trapped in an alternate dimension in order to give a hero a night off from battling hordes of demons, only to discover that a say in our dimension is thousands of years in that one? And they have to not cheat on their love interests. I'm in. Poison Ivy takes over the world again, and Batman and Catwoman have to think their way to rescue everyone while battling heroes possessed by Ivy? It's better than I imagined it would be.

The last story about the wedding dress wasn't for me. Showing the characters' evolution through costume changes and breaking the fourth wall had me rolling my eyes, but I bet some people loved it.

The art in this volume is wonderful, too. And while [a:Mikel Janín|5339653|Mikel Janín|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1342405590p2/5339653.jpg] and [a:Joëlle Jones|988846|Joëlle Jones|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1324188538p2/988846.jpg] deserve a ton of praise for their work here, [a:Travis Moore|3222597|Travis Moore|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1313001885p2/3222597.jpg]'s pencils and inks on the first story should also be commended.

I recommend this for all modern Batman fans, Bruce/Selina shippers, readers who miss the Legends Of The Dark Knight, and Catwoman fans.
