Nice little prequel to The Drowning City! It's a bit darker than it too I think. Mostly because it's so short and deals with an entire family being haunted by one thing rather than a whole city.

Still worth the read if you really loved The Drowning City!

I like Mike Mignola, and after reading this short story, I'm going to have to get 'Joe Golem and the Drowning City'. Mignola does like to emphasize the point of not making deals with magical creatures beacuse you'll always be the loser in the deals. But don't all fairytales say the same thing?
