I read this whole series as a young adult as it was released. I just finished rereading it as an adult and was impressed that it held up in many ways. It definitely was a nostalgic read for me and I probably enjoyed it more because of that. However I do feel like it is a strong story with likeable characters and an interesting plot. It is written for a younger audience but does a pretty good job of tackling some heavier issues (class conflict, death, the morality of using powerful/nuclear weapons, etc). I definitely enjoyed my reread and would recommend this book.

I surprisingly enjoyed this YA fantasy story. I wish it were a bit darker, as the world in which this story takes place alluded to a much deeper history that potentially included darker themes and concepts. I have no plans to read the following novel in this series anytime soon, but I hope that as the teen character ages, so does the writing, as this story was borderline on what I could handle as a YA novel.

AMAZING!!! I thought I wouldn't like science fiction- oh, man, I was dead wrong when I read this book; after Merchant of Death, I had to get the next one, it's so intriguing!! It just has so many twists and turns that it keeps you so intrested and keeps you asking, "what's going to happen next?" If you haven't read it, read it! It's an amazing book!!

Since it took me like 6 weeks to read this one, I probably won't read the next, but I liked it OK. The writing style was not my favorite, but it was engaging enough.
