Read this to Calvin, 8. Was surprised he stuck with it. Had to edit out the N- word several times but, face it, the story is compelling, even if the dialog is old-fashioned and long-winded for a kid to read. Indians. Treasure. Running Away. Caves. I mean, come on -- it's a dream.

I listened to this classic with my boys and I am glad I went for the audio book rather than read aloud because hearing it, I knew they would not be interested as I fumbled through reading it and I am not great at voices like the reader in the audio. I gave it 4 stars because it was the middle of the boys' pick which breaks down as: the 7 and 10 year old said 3 stars and the 13 year old said 5. I hope you will pick it up because it is not only a classic but boys seem to enjoy it.

This was so funny! A perfect book to listen to while painting a fence! Now I’ll listen to Huck Finn while I *continue* painting the fence… because the fence is very big.

I've been meaning to read this for years and finally decided to buckle down and do it - and it was fun! I definitely expected more of a plot and less of a series of vignettes, but I really enjoyed all of Tom's adventures. A fun read that I look forward to rereading in the future!
