At loose ends after his teaching contract expires, Brian decides to spend a few months on the beach doing what he loves most – surfing. As summer comes to an end, Brian knows he has to find something to do with his life; he just doesn’t know what. On the beach one night, Brian spots the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Cassie’s unlike anyone he’s ever met. She’s not just beautiful, smart, and sexy. There’s something truly special about her, something that calls to Brian. But Brian’s love is about to be put to the test when he discovers Cassie’s deepest secret. His lover is a vampire.
My first thought after finishing Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover was “what a fun story.” And truly, that opinion holds. Kelli A. Wilkins has spun a fast, entertaining, deliciously wicked tale that was wonderfully satisfying.
What makes Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover somewhat unusual is that the story is written in the first person, entirely from the hero’s point of view. From my perspective at least (as someone used to reading first person narratives from the female’s viewpoint), it shifted the dynamics of Brian and Cassie’s relationship a bit. The predatory nature of Cassie’s existence was heightened by the fact that it was filtered through a human’s perspective. All the same, Cassie and Brian were perfectly balanced, matching one another in sweetness, strength, and sexuality. In the end, I was delighted by Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover. It’s fascinating and sensual with two immensely likeable protagonists. I am fast becoming a fan of Ms. Wilkins’s stories and look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
