incredibly addicting and graphic writing that pulls you in and makes you sick; the worst parts of being a woman today shown through a self-destructive main character who is both deeply relatable and unlikeable

This was yet another recommendation off of TikTok and oh my GOODNESS, this is hardcore šŸ˜‚

I wasnā€™t expecting all of this darkness and unlikeability! The main character needed therapy more than anything in life, but I found it so fascinating how easily manipulated everyone else was around her too šŸ˜³
We all knew it was coming I suppose, but I still couldnā€™t help feel very upset by her killing the boy!

Iā€™d say at some parts, I couldnā€™t stop, and at some parts I put the book down and felt a bit meh šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø The ways of an untrustworthy narrator I suppose.

This one gets 3.5 out of 5 stars for me, thank you āœØ

Absolutely loved it! This book got me gripped from the start, the writing was really engaging and so easy to read. I liked the exploration of the topics covered, it's an in depth exploration on femininity and sexuality, and the roles reversed around male gaze and misogyny *chefs kiss*. I loved how obsession and power is explored, this book has so much depth, with every read I think you would get more from this book.
Typically books focusing on art are not my thing, as I find it hard to picture art šŸ˜‰ and I don't tend to know the references, but I felt this book was accessible, if you don't know the photography/art "scene". The artists mentioned felt fictional even if they were not and the art narrative really facilitated the plot.
Although this book covers alot of dark topics. As the plot continued it got even more grotesque and horrific. It was very funny in parts with a few laugh out loud moments dotted throughout.
I loved this book! The protagonist is flawed, relatable, awful, unreliableĀ  and horrific, I felt many emotions towards he, and I liked how you second guessed if her narrative was real or not, becoming more delusionsl as the book progressed. I would re-read in a heartbeat and highly recommend.

fav quote: ā€œshe liked Harry Styles a few years ago, and now she likes that white-bread, absolutely fucking baguette of a lad from Call Me by Your Nameā€. This book is p much just unhinged feral woman does unhinged feral things to men that get progessively more unhinged and feral. not sure i got the deeper commentary of it all but it was *interesting* to read ! the tw list gives an indication of the unhingedness at play lmao

Where to begin?! Boy Parts isnā€™t a ā€˜typicalā€™ read for me and felt like a whole lot of ā€œminimal plot, all vibesā€ kind of book and I wasnā€™t totally mad at it.Ā

The characters? Awful (for the most part)
Irina? Unreliable, spiraling, and the funniest (but dark) narrator Iā€™ve met in a long time. Itā€™s gross, unrelenting, and (honestly) kind of sad in many ways.

I donā€™t know if I actually liked this book, but it was a reallyā€¦fun? interesting? different?ā€¦read for me.Ā

Also, Eddie from Tesco deserved better
