This is my campaign to make this book required reading in 2024:

Like big tech in tech in the 2010s and sub-prime lenders in the 2000s, private equity's pillage of US companies is the most recent iteration  of powerful actors screwing the American public.

Ballou's writing was clear, comprehensive, so well-organized, and (most importantly) solution-oriented.

I would give this 10 stars if I could.

A MUST READ for anyone living in the US. Private equity affects us all, in more ways than we realize.

(Color me shocked when I was reading this book and found one of my former employers was bought by a private equity company. Probably why treatment of employees careened downhill so fast and the company filed for unemployment. But I didn’t know then. I just knew I was stressed, underpaid, and needed a new job.)

Too dark with themes, too many people were fleeced by corporations that I couldn't stomach any more.
