I really enjoyed this book. While the overall story arc doesn't make a lot of forward progress ... Player & Zyah are amazing. The insta-lust is full-throttle with them, but in true Torpedo Ink fashion ... Player really messes up. Throw in the "I'm not good enough for her" and "I want all in from him", it takes a bit to get their train back on the tracks.

It starts out with Master & Player trying to get intel on the Ghosts & running into issues. Trouble at home though switches the clubs attention to break-ins and elderly beatings, while trying to get the grocery store up and running without Inez (Zyah gets the manager job), and Alena's restaurant is looking for help.

It was nice to see them pull in, and work on trouble close to home. A long-time favorite Drake sister and her store was a wonderful surprise. I'm really hopeful we'll get more visits with the Drake / Sisters at Heart characters.

SpoilerI was a bit confused at the end with the painting. I'm not sure that's all there was to it. Player was picking up a LOT of malice off that frame.

I love books by Christine Feehan. This is maybe Player and Zyah's story, but you get to see the little slices of life from the other characters Truly that is one of the best things about this author. Just because a series may be done doesn't mean that the characters are and I love it. Player was out for the count for a good portion of this book, so most is focused around Zyah and her day to day life. This book has most everything. You have the struggle of relationship, the lost of loved ones and trust, but also the finding of those you though you never see again. It is so sweet. I can not wait for the next in the Torpedo Ink series. :)

December 2021: Second read and I think I liked it even more than the first time.

April 2021: I love the strong men and women that this author writes into this series. This is another amazing book by her and I’m so much looking forward to the next one!

Insert brooding troubled man here. Ugh this series is getting too repetitive to be enjoyable. Each of the men are exactly the same with no variation of personality so it’s the same story over and over. I enter the world with the Drake sisters and I loved them, continue with the sisters of the heart and loved them, continued with torpedo ink and I’m getting bored. Hopefully we can get some books about the girls in the club to get some variation in this series because I’m just about done with it.

SO MUCH better than the last one as there is really a plot to this one rather than just being a manual for kittens.

That said, not a reader of Sea Haven, so those who are will appreciate this book a lot more than I did. Hard to believe that Jonas and Jackson, being such upstanding officers with their own women to protect and their own talents, actually tolerate the MC hanging around.

Dislike the psychic pairings and had hoped we were done with them once we finished Absinthe and Scarlett. I guess that's one of Feehan's traits, but it hampers getting to know the characters. I felt little attachment to either Zyah or Player because they were so connected to one another.

Lots of repetition from other books in this series. You could overlay this plot on those of the other texts and the plot points would be nearly the same. Lots of background info that readers of this series already have read ad nauseum. I know some of that needs to be there for new readers, but it seems excessive.

The whole bomb/portal didn't work for me--I prefer the gang of thieves plot line. I've read too much fantasy and sci fi dealing with portals to see it used this way here.

Am very grateful that the Francois character gets smoothed out--albeit quickly--at the end. No movement at all on the Ghost/Diamondback/possible Russian survivors hunting down our heroes. Which is too bad as I was looking forward to resolving that overall story arc eventually. (What was the purpose of the scene between Pierce and Alena? That was way out of character for all involved.)

Missed Reaper--he's named but has no presence. Savage is barely there. Instead we have Destroyer.
The first book of the series, as Feehan builds her characters and world, is my favorite. It has some meat to it. Kudos that she stays mostly inside the world she creates, but this far in the series, she relies on past tricks.

TW assault and abuse, both sexual and physical

Great addition to the series. Not usually a fan of "second chance" stories, but this worked.

Triggers: Flashbacks of what happened to Player when he was younger include child abuse (sexually and physically). There is also violence against the elderly in this book.

HEA: Yes

Would I recommend this book? Yes. I would recommend this book to Paranormal Romance readers and Romantic Suspense readers. I’ve tried every time to keep my reviews short, but it’s impossible. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series because I hope either Preacher or Maestro get their books. I also want Alena and Lana to get their books too. There are so many more members that deserve HEA after what they had gone through when they were younger.

Christine Feehan left me wanting more after this book. She’s starting to grow on me now, and I’m glad I found her books. Now, I need to read everything she’s written, which is a lot.
