This is one of these reviews that are difficult to write. The writing is first rate and the dialogue rather amusing. I can easily see this book being made into a movie with very little changes but the cinematic style of the writing just left me cold.

Now I do believe that TROLLHUNTERS would really catch the attention of its intended audience which is young adults, especially boys between eight to thirteen. It is full of adventure and close calls that will take them on a wild ride from the very start to the conclusion.

okay so where do i even start with this

i watched the show back when it came out and i loved it, so when i saw this book i decided to give it a read.
but this book did not live up to its show counterpart, this book had so much infodumping. litterally 20 pages of info dumping that just made no sense

the ending was really good, probably the most exciting part even though i was like really confused throughout it. the action was just really hard to imagine, i feel liek the author had something really detailed and action-packed in mind, but when on put on paper it just didnt come out right.

i feel like a lot said was unneeded and was not useful to the plot

the cover and the few illustrations in the book were just so good that it made me feel bad rating this 2/5 but i just cant get my self to like it.

note : rewatched the show after reading this and id like to say its REALLY good, would def reccommened the show over the book. theyre stories are very different and almost nothing alike other then the charachters, and trolls. i do think others could still enjoy the book but for me it just didnt work.

I really wanted to love this book - I loved the Netflix show and was intrigued by the promise of a darker version - but even though some of it was really good, most of it just fell flat for me. I especially didn't enjoy Jim's narrative voice and honestly did not care for most of the characters nor the plot until halfway through the book, although by the time we properly entered the world of the trolls, I was definitely fascinated, especially by the way Blinky told the history of the trolls and Jack's whole character arc (which I loved btw!). The setup was quite long, felt quite tedious but I feel like it could have worked, had the book been longer, but the fact that the final big battle happens within the last 50-ish pages was a pretty disappointing pay-off, and I don't quite know how to feel about it other than just meh. This book had so much potential, some really good writing at times and really interesting themes, but to me, it just didn't live up to its' own premise (other than the absolutely disgusting descriptions of trolls and their ways - that definitely delivered.)

Zacząłem czytać tę książkę, po zakończeniu innej, dość poważnej lektury. Chciałem czegoś luźnego, żeby trochę się odłączyć. Dokładnie to dostałem.

This was a fun troll hunting adventure story that showcased some emotional family scenes and friendships that seem unlikely! I enjoyed this novel but sadly, not as much as I expected to.
I think one of the main reasons was that we were reading from a kids's perspective but the voice felt.... off. The vibe didn't feel like a child talking and I still stand by that because Jim, our main character, was coming out with some florally vocabulary that a 15 year old wouldn't typically come out with. Tub was definitely more believable as a character and even though he was a supporting role, and one that sometimes annoyed me, he was one of the better characters for me because his character just worked.
I'm not sure how much influence Del Toro had in the creation of the book but I totally see themes that make me think of him and the more adult movies he makes, in the discarded objects briefly mentioned and some of the descriptions (that sometimes felt randomly out of place).. Other than that it didn't really feel like his style, which I mean I would describe this as a slightly older middle grade read so that would be worrying but I was still disappointed in the lack of that.
I do feel like the progress of characters and sometimes the plot was very predictable. The way one character was described early on had me assuming their troll...ness and the involvement of another was just so unsubtle, also from the descriptions used.
However, in saying that, I found that some of the linking revelations properly clicked later on for me but by then I felt like they were aspects that were added too late and didn't help deliver the story or just felt rushed.
Another expected character development occurred but again, I felt like it was added too late and didn't amount to much or added nothing really to the story.
In saying that, this story had me really laughing aloud at some points, especially in the last third when the humour contrasted with the anticipation of the events.
I found this to be a funny and easy read, alas, I was just hoping for more but don't let this unintentionally more sour review shadow the fact that I did enjoy this book.
Next up, the tv show... Pretty excited about that!

Pick it up, give it a go, and enjoy! >(^_^)<
