I read this at E (my 11yo)'s request. He loves this series and it's great for what it is: a middle grade fantasy middle ages story. No monsters but fictionalized historically based geography. The women are active characters in the story. Although there are fewer of them than central male characters, the few in the story are well written, and I always value that with a male author, especially when my boys are reading them.

An amazing instalment in an enchanting series. I feel as if I truly know Will Treaty, Halt, Horace, Evanlyn/Cassandra, and the rest as if I had spent years with them rather than hours reading about them. That, to me, is the sign of a truly extraordinary writer. My thanks to John Flanagan for what continues to be a thrilling adventure.

Confusing... Will was still an apprentice here, but in the last 2 books, he already was a full-pledged ranger!

Yes. The series order is 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 5…
Cool plotline. I liked how the chapters alternated viewpoints and left each chapter on a cliffhanger so you had to keep going to find out what happens.
It was this edition just not kindle.

Another great addition.

Took me awhile to get into the swing of it-- I feel like we were just dropped in and the time skip wasn't really explained. After the past few books I was used to a few months in between books but this one I believe is years! Kinda wish it was explained more.

Story was interesting and I loved how Will saved the day :) All the characters are just written so well, I love reading about them and through all the different POVs.
