I am a person in the autism spectrum and have been meaning to read this book for over a year now , finally got my hands on it and it is worth it. It felt like the author dug into my brain and put exactly how I think on paper which is so validating and refreshing to see. The writing style is simplistic yet so captivating and really helps you understand Christopher’s motivations, while Christopher cannot see the feelings and/or emotions of other characters and why they may act the way they do— it is very clear to the reader and we are given great context to help us come to these conclusions. The worst part of the book and where it started to feel like actual work to read was midway through the train station section of the book. I think it went on far too long and wasnt  interesting enough to warrant as much space as it took up and can honestly make someone want to stop reading but I kept going and was pleasantly surprised. Another thing I wasn’t super fond of was how squished information was in the last few pages, it felt like the book had sped up 10x and it was hard to keep up and remember everything. Other than that, great read.

As for the story, it was nice and slow (which I enjoy). The dialog was sometimes annoying with the excessive use of "I/he/she said", but I understand it was on purpose. I didn't like the ending, it felt abrupt.
As for the autism representation, it's fine. I could relate to some things and not others —which is expected, as I'm an autistic adult woman and not a 15 y/o boy, and every autistic person is different. The main character is the classic white-male-savant syndrome type who loves maths (and he doesn't seem to like trains for a change), but I'll give it some grace because it was written by a supposedly allistic author in 2003 who "worked with autistic individuals". So, I don't find it offensive, just meh.

Oh my goodness. I generally cringe when narrators are children, but in this case, it worked really well. Seeing the world through Christopher's eyes was illuminating. This poor child. The world is so very confusing to him. But I have so much confidence in this young man, and I'm sure he'll accomplish all he wants, even with all the barriers he'll have to face (the world isn't exactly designed for his accessibility needs, after all). I'm hopeful he'll make lots of friends, find people who are kind wherever he goes, and solves great scientific mysteries.

This is like my 5th time unintentionally reading a book about myself! I love everything about it. I don't have much to say!

This was the book I needed. I'm not a maths expert - statistics gave me so much happiness but thats about it. But everything else about the string of thoughts in this novel felt simultaneously familiar, emotional, thoughtful, embarrassing, comforting, sad, reassuring, terrifying, beautiful... I can't really put words for how this one made me feel.

I've been trying to find a book that would make me cry, and this one did the trick.
