To be honest, I struggled with this first book the The Guardian series. It was really hard to distinguish it from the all-too-common HP ripoff. Lonely, misunderstood orphan finds out he has a life! and people! and powers! and purpose! But the guardian bloodline thing does take this in a different direction.
The grammar and typos are very difficult to get past but is common for new authors who don't have publisher support.
When I first started this one, I was having to force myself through it but by the end, I was hooked and I'm now enjoying the 2nd book in the series. I'm giving it 4 stars on the merits of the series and not this one book itself. Four may still be a little high but I'm okay being a little more generous with new authors, especially when they show growth and Owens has definitely done that.
