I couldn’t answer. I knew I loved him more than words could say, but I couldn’t respond.

it felt like a decent way to wrap the series up after the highs and lows of anne’s writing throughout the years and it was nice to see lestat and the rest finally settled <3

No se cómo empezar esta reseña, porque no se cómo no mezclarla con mis sentimientos en general con respecto a los últimos libros de la saga. Probablemente esta review sea más caótica y desorganizada de lo que quisiera. Oh well...
Rice, en su afán de modernizarse, ha dejado atrás lo ~~único~~ mejor que tenía: sus biografías de personajes. Amaba cuando cortaba la narración de un libro y se pasaba 500 páginas (o más) contando la vida de ese personaje. Ahora que ya no hace eso siento que no tiene mucho que ofrecer.
Aprecio enormemente lo que viene tratando de hacer en sus últimos libros: instaurar una comunidad vampírica. Pero para ello ha cometido algunos crímenes literarios que no puedo pasar por alto:
-Revivir personajes muertos, o cambiar su historia/personalidad
-Matar personajes con cualquier excusa, simplemente porque no encajan en su comunidad
-Dejar a los viejos personajes como caricaturas de sí mismos, casi como una decoración de fondo
-Presentar decenas de personajes nuevos sin darnos demasiados datos ni tiempo o razones para tomarles simpatía.
He visto otras comunidades de vampiros en otros libros (no, no hablo de Crepúsculo) y funcionan bellamente porque están llenas de conflicto, sospechas, complots (sí, se que el plural de la Real Academia es "complotes" pero no me gusta) y puñales por la espalda. Aquí tenemos unos 2000 vampiros que se aman entre ellos y adoran a Lestat, por alguna razón que nunca llega a ser completamente razonable.
La historia en este libro es... mínima, una excusa sin razón, y Rice utiliza trucos de magia baratos y podemos ver desde el principio las cartas escondidas en su manga. Trata de ser dramática y pegar golpes bajos, lo cual ya de por sí es bastante malo, pero finalmente no se anima a hacerlo, lo cual hace que todo sea mucho más patético.
El final (malo y abrupto, como siempre) ocurre un poco antes de lo acostumbrado, al llegar al 80% del libro aproximadamente. La crisis que parecía totalmente imposible de superar se resuelve en segundos y de manera totalmente insatisfactoria, como suelen ser los climax de Anne Rice. Lo que sigue es una especie de cierre para el personaje principal que me recordó muchísimo al final de la serie Evangelion.

Jadi konsep dari buku ini adalah narasi langsung yang disampaikan oleh Prince Lestat sebagai pemimpin Court atau Blood Communion yang anggotanya adalah vampir yang mau ngikutin aturan yang dibuat oleh Court. Jadi seolah-olah Prince Lestat itu ada dan menceritakan sepenggal kisah hidupnya. Walaupun aku cuma baca buku ini aja, tapi aku masih bisa menikmati ceritanya walaupun ada beberapa persitiwa atau istilah yang aku ga tau karena aku ga baca buku-buku sebelumnya (bisa search aja sih jadi tau dan nyambung waktu baca). Dan setelah baca buku ini aku jadi pengen baca buku Anne Rice yang lainnya soalnya konsepnya unik sih semacam autobiografi gitu tapi autobiografi vampir. Kalo suka cerita tentang vampir boleh banget sih baca buku ini!

Honestly this book was so unnecessary in every way. More needless and sudden vilification of Rhoshamandes, more classical music and velvet, more everyone hanging to Lestat’s every word and action as if he were literally god, more character checklists and useless character plotlines and introductions such as Baudwin, Santh, Barbara and Jabre.
The only good parts were the scene with Benedict, Armand speaking honestly and angrily with Lestat and Louis and Lestat dancing together and kissing but that is not enough to give this useless book a good rating sorry.
