This book has no plot. And I'm one of those ppl who prefers character driven plots, I don't need a hero to have particular task for a book, they could just be undergoing an emotional journey. But this book has no plot and it was just plain boring. I don't think Lestat was in character for 99% of the book. Lestat's morality in this book makes no sense. His waffling on killing, even ppl who deserved it make no sense. If Anne Rice has mellowed with age that's fine. But I have a hard time believing it would take Lestat as long as it did to react when 3 of the most important ppl in his life were abducted and presumed murdered. Like when he finally when apeshit I was so thankful. And it didn't even go as hard as I think it should have. This book should not be categorized as horror.
I absolutely hate how Anne Rice summarizes the plots of the previous books in the series in each book. She wants to make it so you can just pick up anywhere but there are 13 books now, it takes up a large chunk of time. I can't read these books one right after another for this reason.
Also this book comes with illustrations. And I can see not wanting to draw main characters but all of the illustrations provided literally add nothing. They're just illustrations of rooms or items mentioned in the book that have no relevance to the plot. It's like the illustrator didn't want to work hard so they picked the easiest things to draw.
Like I could list a hundred and one things I dislike about this series and my liking it so much baffles even me at times. It doesn't make any sense. Compels me though. But this one is a skip, just bad.
