I agree with another reviewer - I enjoyed the beginning and much of the middle, but it wrapped up way too quickly and easily. At first I was thinking I forgot how much I enjoyed Belva Plain as it has been so many years since I read anything of hers, but by the end, I thought I could have skipped this one.
It was a quick read though. Plus, it's another book off the stack of books in the laundry room.

This is a sweet story, though perhaps nothing really to write home about. The woman who gave it to me at camp this summer basically said it was fun, light, and without substance, which is more or less true.

Meddling grandmother sets up an awkward weekend in the country, hoping to heal her family's many rifts. The characters are lovingly drawn and bear close resemblances to people I've know. This is a story based on the premise that blood is thicker than water and makes me want to believe.
