ARISE Continues with Amelia stuck between life and death and in love with Joshua. They take a trip to New Orleans to visit Joshua's relatives and Amelia ends up meeting someone that changes her from a ghost who can touch Joshua to a half alive girl that can touch everything but Joshua.

I didn't enjoy ARISE as much as HEREAFTER, I just couldn't get into the story. For half of the book Amelia actually isn't even with Joshua. She leaves him for his own protection while she runs from the darkness that is still chasing her so there isn't much romance. We meet Gabrielle and although she starts out as someone you might not like she ended up being pretty cool and I would like to see more of her in future books. The setting was ok. I love New Orleans so having characters running around it especially with ghosts is understandable. Most of Joshua's young relatives annoyed me and as soon as Amelia and Joshua got into their car to drive home at the end of the book I was relieved to not have to deal with them anymore.

Now that Amelia is visual to everyone but not able to touch Joshua I assume the tragic love story will turn more tragic in book 3. Not sure if I will pick up ELERGY when it comes out but the story has been interesting enough so far.

I think the best part about this book is that there is no love triangle--which frankly is becoming way too over-rated in YA books these days. That, and Amelia once again proves to be just one of those MCs who do not need rescuing. Sure she's a little too jumpy and is always worrying, worrying, worrying but at least she doesn't just sit around and bite her nails and do nothing. I don't know why, but I liked this book so much better than the first--maybe because the characters get to develop some more--esp Amelia who starts out as a nervous amnesiac ghost in the first book and then slowly develops into a strong, leading character--the development in her personality was subtle but enjoying and I really loved watching her kick ass.

I really enjoyed Arise. Unlike so many sequels that fall short of the first story, I thought this one went above and beyond how great the first one was. The majority of this book takes place in New Orleans in the French Quarter. You meet a whole new (large) group of people who are very interesting. I might have actually liked this one more than I liked Hereafter and Hereafter is in my Top 5 so that's saying something!

Sadly, I was a bit disappointed with Arise because of how hectic the plot line was. It was almost as if it was going to go on for a while and then BAM here we were at the climax. It was just a bit strange, but the book was great and Amelia was able to make a friend. However, she was dragged off by her crazed ex-boyfriend that she had Jillian kill. Also, Joshua and Amelia broke up, Amelia became risen, now people can see her, and Joshua and Amelia are back together, but they can't touch anymore. Amelia didn't even try to touch him yet! So how does she know for sure??? But can't wait for the third book!

Have come to the conclusion that I should let this series go as I'm no longer interested in it and don't have a desire to reread the first book to remember what happened.
