YOU GUYS

description

I think what happened with this book and I was very simple.. boredom. But to be honest with you guys, I don't know if the problem is me or the book. Emily Henry's writing was simple and can be poetic that it made me read through half of the book. However, the book's pacing was so slow that I just decided to stop reading. This is the kind of book that works if you're a patient reader a.k.a NOT ME. Unfortunately, I really don't see myself picking this book up again. The truth is: It's just not that interesting for me. And the pretty cover wont just do it.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a page turner and I stayed up half the night reading it. I kept picturing Beau as Tim Riggins so that was a plus! Haha

I really loved Natalie's character. She was strong and complex and I loved her in the book! Her and Beaus relationship was quick but cute. I wanted them to find a way to be together in the end.

It was also a very unique book with very in-depth somewhat complex details. I was confused at some points of the book, but my questions were answered later in the book and it made sense.

It is definitely Friday night lights meets the time travelers wife.

I just wish it had expounded more at the end. I wanted to know what world she ended up in.

I keep getting suckered into reading romance. I do not like romance. Or else this was just an awful example of it. There was far too much mooning and melting into each other. The time travel stuff was entirely too predictable and the ending was completely unsatisfying. Also - much of it felt a bit like appropriation? One of the characters explicitly states that the stories of the First Nations shouldn’t be written down and that’s why they must be recorded instead. But who is Emily Henry that gives her the right to use them anyway? It felt problematic to me.

The writing was lovely, for the most part. The universe and the characters were interesting enough, and I really liked that they attempted to incorporate some real science in there. The main character did have meaningful relationships with other females, which made me happy. However, this book centered on a (completely unnecessary) love triangle. So the story was basically, "Hi I am a strong female protagonist who can literally travel to alternate realities and time travel and do all kinds of crazy stuff AND THIS IS MY BOYFRIEND AND OH NO HERE COMES ANOTHER LOVE INTEREST TO RUIN EVERYTHING!"
