Great and powerful story. Some stylistic things I would have preferred different such as the POV switches. I also felt like the time jumps could have been handled better but overall a fantastic book and would recommend. I learned a lot from this book.

Another riveting and devastating novel by Susan Abulhawa. This one explores life in the refugee camps of Jenin, a real place in Palestine. It follows one woman, Amal, who has two brothers. One brother is raised with her and the other brother is stolen by an Israeli soldier during the attack on their village that forces them into the Jenin refugee camp. It follows her life as she grows up and navigates life in a refugee camp.

The ending (no spoilers) was devasting. Susan Abulhawa has a way of writing that seems to make even the most devastating scenes beautiful as well. Highly, highly recommend.

This is a heartbreaking story of the suffering, strength and hope of the Palestinian people. And although these characters are fictional they represent the lives of real people. I hope that one day Palestine will be free, from the river to the sea.
