Poor character development and a very underwhelming climax. Made it almost to the end but couldn't quite bring myself to finish.

Dark, twisted and maybe 100 pages too long.

Don't get me wrong I adored this, it's well written and the plot is absolutely delicious but I do think that it dragged on a tad too long.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Updated review 2/5/23. Originally done 6/19/23. Did not finish this. It was too religious for my tastes, and the writing style was difficult to read. My focus kept wandering, and I even preferred to stare at the wall instead of trying to read this. I'm sure others enjoyed it, but it didn't suit my tastes personally. Perhaps I was not in the right head space for it, or maybe I was not the right age when I attempted to read it. I may eventually try again, but for now, it will be shelved away.

This was LONG, needlessly so, but the plot was well done and OH the writing! Though I struggled to get through it, I loved the way it was written, and that final quarter was wonderful.

A genuine 5-star read.
I don’t often visualize while reading, but this was like watching a movie in my head. Slow, creeping dread; the perfect slow burn that becomes a raging inferno. Pacing was perfect, atmospheric as heck, and the characters kept you locked in. A Perfect Horror Novel. Period.

Too many of my trigger warnings and I really disliked the narrators voice for the audio book
