Fantastic read. The first 2 thirds of the book are more the implication of science fiction than actual fiction. it is an earth from the 1960s and 70s that you will recognize as nearly factual.

The 3Body problem (an actual area of study in physics) is presented and makes for a fascinating science possibility and an intellectual challenge. This is mixed in with a mystery/detective story. This issue is gamified in the novel and very exciting to read.

The final third of the novel gets into hard science fiction. It reads much like a futuristic Cold War between the Soviet Union and United States. That this is written by a Chinese woman whose access to Western sci-fi and whose ability to sell her work to the Western world only recently was allowed makes it even more incredible.

This work definitely places Liu Cixin in my list of favorite SciFi authors with
Asimov, Heinlein, Clark, and a handful of others. Looking forward to reading the two sequels.
