Despite note being an avid reader of poetry I really enjoyed this book. As a Halsey fan it added a lot of insight into her life and music and made me feel like I was getting a special preview. I enjoyed the words and I resonated with some of the poems. Some felt confusing and missed the mark but it was still interesting to read about such experiences. Some of my stand out poems were Wish You The Best, The Tourist, Onanism, Eight, The Painter, Antagonist, Fun Girl (I think my favourite) and A Story Like Mine (search her performing this at the womens march, I cry every time). I think this book would be great to return to as life goes on and see whether I read anything differently. I would recommend this for fans of Halsey and poetry lovers but please consider trigger warnings before reading as there are very dark themes discussed.

Not traditional poems. Tells important stories of her life with only a few words.

There are some absolutely beautiful and powerful verses in here, but overall I think I would have appreciated it more if I had been able to listen to the poems. I don’t think they work well in this format.

Disclaimer: I'm only a casual Halsey listener and like a few of her songs. Most of these were pretty bad and amateurish, but I think that's to be expected from a poetry collection by a celebrity. A handful were really good, though, and offered some insight into her life that was both moving and very sad. (She has a lot of trauma in her past: rape, abusive relationships, etc.) Her writing has that "lost teenager in love with the wrong people" vibe about it.

while it was an interesting insight into Halsey's life, there's was some lines that were repetitive such as the mention of honey. Then again half the poems were in response to previous poems in the book.

This was...NOT an amazing body of poetry. I’m sure the audiobook is better and I still enjoy Halsey’s music very much. But their written prose on its own is very rough. I can at least applaud the raw honesty and length of their poems. The cover is also great.

The best poem in this collection is A STORY LIKE MINE. Here are a few others I personally enjoyed:

YOU WERE FIRST
WISH YOU THE BEST
THE PROFESSIONAL
THE BAKER
FUN GIRL
FOREVER CURSED IN LOVE ARE THE OBSERVANT
SEVENTEEN
