I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time. The author really developed a picture for me to imagine of every setting and person. The storylines were woven together quite perfectly. Maybe one day I will find a lost bookstore!

I honestly love the concept of this book. Really do. But it just felt poorly executed. The writing style felt a little juvenile, cliche, and not very mature. The characters were poorly developed, there were so many scenes and characters that offered nothing to the plot, and the author was trying too hard to throw in wise one-liners, but that got annoying. There were also a lot of spelling/grammar mistakes??? I feel like a better editor would have been able to help with that, tie together some of the plot inconsistencies throughout the book and give the characters a stronger voice. Woods poorly handled a lot of touchy subjects (domestic abuse, war trauma, etc) and I want to love this book and I can’t.

Beautiful. Magical. I LOVED reading this book. I got goosebumps reading the very magical moments. I felt lost when I finished it. I wish I could read it for the first time again.

I really enjoyed the book overall, but ended up feeling more disappointed by the level of focus on romance across all people and then the parts of it that mixed between reality and not felt like it was more of wishing for a proper ending rather than something that perfectly fit together. It felt more unfortunately forced.

I had to stop reading this book. Between the male love interests of both the women being creepy, try-hard incels, and the author telling rather than showing, I just couldn't deal with it. Usually when I DNF, there is a chance I'll return to it in the future, there is no such possibility with this one.

Liked the dual timeline but did not understand the attraction between any of the love interests. A lot happens plot-wise in a very short time and it didn't always make sense to me how characters acted. I would have preferred if the author explored the inner workings of the characters more rather stumbling from one tragic event to the next.
If you don't want to read about certain topics consult the trigger warnings as this book is quite dark.

I like it, but it was not what I was expecting. I think the bookshop that is mentioned in the synopsis is more of a metaphor and theme for the story. It was the backdrop for the real story. But it was a cute little found family historical fiction. The plot gave Kate Morton vibes, but with less flowery language. Still a fun summer read.
