This felt like many books. It seemed all over the place and plot lines seemed to drag in some places and get cut short in others. I enjoyed the main characters which was highly motivating for me to finish but there were whole sections I had to skip for how horrific they were. The messages were sweet and the various allusions to other novels was fun. The amount of magic felt refreshing and the contemporary struggles real. The book touches on trauma and a variety of distressing topics. This felt jarring against the whimsical magic background  as though it conflicted rather than resonating. Perhaps that was the intent?
The writing overall was strong despite the disjointed aspects but I highly recommend the audiobook if this is your type of read.

This was an easy read, lighthearted story. I found the writing style quite clunky - more 'I'm going to tell you everything you need to know in one go, then drip feed a couple of hints later on you don't need as you've already worked out the ending'

A dual timeline and three POVs made this book a little all over the place. I want to say I don't like books with multiple POVs but maybe it just takes extra brain power and I don't always want to do that. Also reading a chapter a night on the kindle made it hard to double check any information I thought I knew but when I switched to the audiobook for a long drive I got into a rhythm and the story came together for me a little better.
As for the story it was not so bad but had some plot holes. Listen to the audiobook if you want to read this!

I didn't dislike the book as much as I was disappointed.  I thought the book would be about a magic Bookshop based on the title, description, and cover.  I was surprised to find instead that it was really about women surviving abuse and also a love story and also a magical bookshop.

There were a lot of things going on, and as a result, a lot of questions were left unanswered.  There was also a lot of convenient pieces of information given sentences before it was needed, even though there was ample opportunity to provide that context earlier in the novel.

Some of the relationships felt forced.

The ending was satisfying.

The POV'S were confusing at first, probably a me thing.

So Night Circus is my favorite book and I’m always looking for something that gives me what I felt reading that. This book did that. Martha, Henry and Opaline’s stories were so engaging and magical that I was hooked from the first sentence. I love the multiple POV and I’m a sucker for duel timelines, I love seeing how the past can contribute to the present. I feel like this book is about the power of stories and your place in the world. Truly being who you are and not hiding from it was a key theme in my opinion. Magic Realism is such a compelling genre that instantly grabs me and doesn’t let go. I really loved the beautiful, sad, and hopeful book.
