This one is my favorite in the series. He’s much more believable than Nina, and more relatable than Luke. I liked seeing Luke/Lee through his eyes; watching him realize that his hero is fallibly human, just as he is. And I absolutely love Mark.

It hurts to rate a MPH book so low, but I didn't love this one. TBH I really wanted to just dnf this book up until the last 40 pages. I wasn't a fan of Trey's pov. It felt like the book was focusing on how much of a wimp Trey believed he was, rather than any actual plot, so it was kind of hard to get through, but he finally redeemed himself towards the end.

Wow! This is a great recharge to the series. Trey is the narrator, which is incredible to see a third shadow child's point of view. Margaret Peterson Haddix writes such three dimensional characters that it only serves to add to the complexity of the world building in her stories. Plus, its hard not to root for bookish Trey to be brave and have the courage to venture sooooo far out of his comfort zone. I won't say more to refrain from spoilers, but the parallels to our own current state of our country and the government portrayed in the book series is too much for comfort that's for sure. This book is my second favorite and I'm so excited to see how things end up for Luke Garner/Lee Grant
