My thoughts:
- the main character wasn't awful, but gosh girl was soooo dumb half the time
- love interest was highly unrealistic
- was an addicting read
- not a huge fan of the romance in this one
- I was more enthralled with Mallory healing and having a healthy workplace environment
- why was chess so sexual in this?
- overall a light fun fast read

I think this is actually Ali Hazelwood's best work, which is perhaps a controversial take and most definitely a surprising one considering how feral Bride and Love, Theoretically made me. But, while those were mostly fun times with a little bit of development thrown in for giggles, this book deals with trauma, sexism and coming of age in what I felt was an extremely effective way. It's the book I would recommend to anyone wanting to see what the Ali Hazelwood hype is all about.

It went Ali Hazelwood’s best. I actually disliked the main character the most out of anybody in the book. Yet as always the development of the romance sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down.

If you watched Queens Gambit & wished it was a romance then this is perfect for you! I don’t even like chess that much but Hazelwood had me caring about the game almost as much as I cared about the characters. Loved it!

This was pretty cute and engaging. It stands on its own even without the romance. The romance is good though. I really enjoyed the familial aspects of this too.
