I was actually so impressed by this book. I was not even planning on reading it, until a friend of mine suggested it, and I was blown away. The story added so much flavor to the Hunger Games series and the progression of Coriolanus' from "morally gray" to evil was artfully displayed. I went into this book knowing it wouldn't have a happy ending and knowing that I probably wouldn't like the ending, and while I was right, I do feel like the ending was the culmination of what had been building the entire book and it was very appropriate. That being said, I hate Coriolanus.

If this book cut out all the bullshit and condensed it into a book half the size, maybe then it would be acceptable. I did enjoy a few things about the book, the small references and nods to the trilogy were sprinkled in well, and I enjoyed very much the narrative of where The Hanging Tree song came from, but honestly a lot of it was totally unnecessary and should've been cut.
